The art of summoning has not truly been fully explored in the Realm of Archaea (fodder for the companion). However, there has been some success in the areas of elemental magics, spirit magics, and animal magics. The calling into being of creatures is delicate and often consuming work.

Magic Lore 5 or higher

The Arche of Power possesses the ability to manipulate, alter, and control dimensions. However, it has been long standing knowledge that something about the Mists prevents access to other "realms." There has been moderate success in touching the elemental planes and near ethereal planes. However, true summoning has yet to be fully realized. There is lore from Ashur speaking of desert wizards being able to call into being powerful beings. There is also stories of tribal "medicine" men from Eban being able to summon animalistic spirits.

Magic Lore 8 or higher

True summoning requires mastery of the Arche of Power. The power to pull beings from other "planes" lies in the ability to manipulate the fabric of time, space, and magic itself. Dangerous and extremely taxing, summoning remains a secret art. There are a number of ancient Academy sanctions against summoning still on record. It is said that Alatannin forbade the teaching of summoning, but all that remains his his forbiddance of the teaching of spirit magic.

The Keepers of the Twin Towers have some knowledge of summoning elementals. The Twin Towers are said to be protected by creatures of air, earth, fire, and water.

The Council of the Table of Bone has some knowledge of the summoning of spirits. Of the types of creatures and beings that can be summoned, ethereal creatures seem to be the easiest.

Summoning is directly tied to the Mists. Therefore, the mistical arts seemed best attuned to the calling forth of other-worldly creatures.

Mistic Lore 3 or greater

With the coming of the Bane and proof of the Archaean underworld, thought to be a near-dimension governed by the Path of Black, research into summoning has begun in secret. The scholars of Lleander bend their will to discovering how creatures seem to come from the Mists as well as from the Bane's dark manifestations.

Demons have often been spoken of only in tale. However, there is some truth to all myth. It is feared that the servants of the Path of Black have "remembered" how to call upon demons.

Mistic Lore 5 or greater / Legend Lore 5 or greater

The appearance of true demons is of significant concern to those that follow the Path of White. Since the beginning of the Age of Remember, only two reports of true demons have been recorded.

The first report is nearly two-hundred years old and tells of an Ashuri High Mage in Sadi was killed by a strange, humanoid, leathery-winged, and many-horned creature. The spirit of the dead mage, Bathshuba, was questioned. All that was learned was that Bathshuba was attempting to call upon the aid of an ancient spirit. For decades, citizens of Sadi were terrorized by a dark creature, which they named Bathshuba's Horror. Precious livestock were killed. A handful murdered in the deep of night. Then, after thirty or so years, Bathshuba's Horror vanished and the story fell into legend.

The second report comes from Icuna. In the past century, a number of Lakemen ships have reported the movement of some strange, sleek-bodied creature just beneath the waters of the Icunan seas. For the most part, the creature (believed to be perhaps a giant squid or giant eel) maintains its distance shrouded in mist and darkness. One ship, nearly seventy years ago, named Viggo's Saber struck something massive in the waters of Middlesea; the ship and its crew were lost. Wreckage of the Saber was found for weeks along the shores; it was as if the ship had been crushed. The sailors of the region have a name for the mysterious creature: urumecul or "rib-breaker."

The catalogue of demonic creatures is scant at best. Many mistic scholars agree, however, that if there are beings that serve the Path of Black then there must be similar creatures that serve the Path of White (and the Path of Gray).

Demons serve the Path of Night. Daemons serve the Path of Light.
