Mistic Lore 1 / Legend Lore 1 / Magic Lore 1 / History 3
Thousands of years ago, during the Lost Age (also called the Age of the Icuni), lived a civilization of great knowledge, great magic, great misticism, and great enlightenment--the Icuni civilization.
"Icuni eyes like jewels" is a common saying expressing wonder, amazement, or awe.
Very little is known about the Icuni save they left a scattered few ancient ruins across the Realm. The largest ruins are found in Icuna, on Sarus, and on Teer. Occasionally, bits and pieces of ancient white stone will be found elsewhere.
Legends say that the Icuni and the Mists are connected. Some believe that the Icuni left the Realm entering the Mists never to return to Archaea.
Rumors say that to visit an Icuni ruin is to invite misfortune, disaster, or madness. Most ruins are believed to be haunted or cursed.
Mistic Lore 1 / Magic Lore 1 / Legend Lore 3 / History 5
Much of the Realm's magical and mistical lore, craft, and ability can be traced back to the ancient Icuni. Though many spells and rituals and enchantments are clearly "modern," the foundation of magical and mistical study is drawn from the Icuni.
The Curi are said to be very distant descendants of the Icuni.
The city of Lleander, the home of the Curi on Sarus, is said to be built on the remains of an ancient Icuni city.
No one knows what an Icuni looks like for none of their ruins, relics, or remains bears any images of their forms, faces, or persons.
The cities of Sarhall, Umbrua, and Teerinteer have Museums of Icuni Antiquities that house Icuni scholars, that fund research and expeditions, and hold Icuni artifacts.
Mistic Lore 3 / Magic Lore 3 / Legend Lore 5 / History 7
Icuni ruins are always touched by misticism and often by magic. It is believed the very buildings were ordained and enchanted though no one knows for what purpose.
The majority of mistical rituals are taken directly from fragments of Icuni texts. Most of such texts are in the possession of Lleander. Recently, a handful of texts were discovered on Teer.
Most of the Icuni ruins in the Icunan valley have been mapped. There are nine major Icuni sites in Icuna, remnants of old cities, and over a hundred lesser sites, which often contain only a handful of crumbled bits of stone. There are nine major sites in the mountains of Sarus (Lleander is included) and nearly four dozen smaller sites. There is only one major site on Teer and thirteen small sites on the island.
Most ruins are indeed haunted--something about the nature of the ruins attracts or generates undead. Monsters often find haven in ruins.
Mistic Lore 5 / Magic Lore 7 / Legend Lore 7 / History 10
One of the most well-explored Icuni ruin is called Seviar Solun, which is southwest of Umbra near the mountains. Seviar Solun, which is translated roughly as "the place of red columns" or "the colonnade of lost blood" or "the cutting stone." Seviar Solun has been mapped in detail and has produced several caches of treasures and relics, most of which have been sequestered by the mistical and magical Organizations.
Lleander is also called Lian Dromun, which means approximately "the house (or place or dome or mountain) of light (or life or fine silk weavings)."
Mistic Lore 5 / Magic Lore 7
The mistical and magical energies that touch most Icuni ruins have been partially identified. Most ruins are touched by faint auras of healing, necromancy, and mind magics.
The human and living mind often cannot bear to remain ruins too long. Something about the ambient magic and misticism disturbs thought and life. Some have reported not being affected at all, though.
The Spirit spell Blood Magic is said to have been discovered in Seviar Solun.
Invoking magic or evoking misticism within an Icuni ruin may produce unusual, unexpected, or failed results. Some effects are heightened. Others are mutated. Others simply do not work. The effects seem random or at least specific to person, place, and spell or ritual.
Mistic Lore 7 / Magic Lore 8 / Legend Lore 10
The Icuni ruin on Teer is the most complete and well-preserved of all the ruins in the Realm. Research and excavation into the ruin is underway. Already, the ruin has produced several noteworthy artifacts including several rituals. The ruin has been dubbed Sana Dromun or Sanander, which means "house (or dome or place or mountain) of inspiration (or madness).
There is a small Icuni ruin in the center of Sarhall. It is enclosed by the Palace of the Grand Sovereign. It is a small open-air, many-columned, domed circular building. It is said that the Crown of the Sar was discovered in the building. The ruin is called Resar Domun or "the dome of rule."
Every major Icuni ruin has one feature in common: a wide circular building with concentric seemingly randomly placed columns. Such buildings were often domed (though most no longer have their coverings). In the center of the building is a mosaic of the map of the Realm; marks upon the map reveal other sites with these curious buildings. The buildings are called Cartaeums or "maphouses."
Mistic Lore 8 / Magic Lore 10
It is believed that the Cartaeums found in major Icuni ruins were onced used as standing portals allowing persons to travel swiftly from place to place. Unfortunately, the magic and/or misticism required to use the Cartaeums remains lost. The Academy and mistical organizations continue to work to unravel the secrets of the strange columned buildings.
