{Spring has finally arrived in Darkwell. Though, the wind is still occasionally icy blowing down from the Winter Wastes, the land is beginning its slow, slow thaw. The breath of warmth has caused the city to spring to life. The Turn of the Year celebration was the start of the awakening. And with the warming, Darkwell becomes filled with activity. Trade picks up slowly. Over the past weeks, there has been a great deal of rumor and speculation whispering through the streets, guild halls, manors, and palaces while the Wardens of Dawn and company remain in Darkwell.}

Streetwise 1 and Courtier 1

The coming of spring has been a welcome thing. The winter's stores are thin and the gentle rise in trade in Darkwell is bringing goods from the warmer South.

There has been an increase in crime in the Low Quarter of Darkwell (the area near the docks, otherwise known as the Poor Quarter). Additional Guardians of the Shield have been on patrol, though to little avail.

The gloom of the winter has made much of the citizenry melancholic and gruff. In addition, people have complained of poor night's rest, bad dreams, and lack of sleep.

Rumors are that the Wardens of Dawn, who have been staying at the Inn of the Blue Feather, are cursed.

A Reiellan river ship was turned away from the docks in the past week for suspicious reasons.

There has been a great deal of activity at the High Academy. A group of mages, travelworn and bundled for the cold, arrived at the Hall weeks ago.

Rumors are that the Wardens of Dawn have come into a great deal of money.

There has been a great deal of activity at the House of Healers. A high number of the city's children have fallen ill. Some believe it to be some sort of winter sickness brought on by the long winter season.

Warnings have been posted by the Guard at the large, grated openings to the city's sewers. People are warned not to trespass in the sewer system.

Rumors of strange sounds coming from the sewers are spreading through the city.

A Guardian of the Shield was killed in the Low Quarter a few days after the start of Highspring.

Streetwise 3 and Courtier 3

Strange animal noises have been heard in the sewers. Vagabonds and rogues report seeing a number of dead rats in the underground tunnels.

The House of Healers have taken over a number of houses in their district turning them into homes for the sick.

The Wardens of Dawn now serve the Knights of the Banner and are no longer favored by the High Academy.

There have been sign of the Hand Macabre everywhere in the city. Graffiti, watchwords, and cantsign have been left on walls, doors, tavern tables, and even the stones surrounding the Hall of the Banner Knights.

The Inn of the Blue Feather is haunted by the ghosts of two children.

Fex Veshengo of the Watchers is said to be one of the first Generalist Watchers. It is said that certain Organizations have accepted Generalist casters into their ranks.

The Polecat was the Reiellan ship turned away at the docks. Rumors say that a longboat was sent ashore before the ship reached port and the longboat was sent away before it reached dock.

People in hushed tones and worried glances tell of strange dreams that began sometime as far back as the end of summer. Though they cannot remember much of the dream, they do recall that they were fearful, anxious, and cold.

Magic has been strange in the city.

A number of children have gone missing since the Turn of the Year. The Guardians of the Shield have posted descriptions and sketches. Any information leading to the recovery of a child will garner a modest reward.

Tigris Sealever, a known courtesan and ladyfriend popular in the Merchant's District, was found strangled and robbed a few nights prior.

A handful of people report dreaming about their children and strangely being afraid of their children.

A librarian of the Academy's Grimoirie has joined the ranks of the Wardens of Dawn.

Healing magics are being stockpiled by the House of Healers.

A powerful magic item was stolen from the High Academy. But the thieves were caught by the Wardens of Dawn and the item was returned.

Streetwise 5 and Courtier 5

The Academy Hall has been busy investigating the sudden failure of magic items in the city. The Hall assures people that there is nothing to be concerned with.

The Reiellan ship, The Polecat, was turned away by dock officials for fear of plague.

Lord Lucien Valerius, one of the members of the Wardens of Dawn, was Raised to the rank of Mage, 1st Circle. Rumors say the Mage had failed his Test but used his influence to gain favor from the High Academy.

There has been activity, moreso than usual and carefully guarded from outside eyes, at the Hall of the Sisterhood. An increased number of Brotherhood members now walk about the Hall.

Disturbing graffiti has popped up all over the city. The message "I RETURN FROM DARKNESS" has been hastily, sometimes gougingly, scrawled in random places. No one knows who has been leaving the watchwords.

Most of the beds in the House of Healers and in sick houses set up by the Healers have been taken up by children, who sleep but cannot be awoken. They seem physically fine. There is no sign of disease, poison, magic, or curse.

A Foundling was found dead, frozen to death, floating in the waters of the harbor.

Rumors say that the High Academy is working on something of great importance.
