{Here is the write-up for the ritual Rite of the Black Mask that was "released" to a handful of mistics last year. The ritual is considered lost. However, players should make note of its existence. The ritual will most likely become part of the Archaea canon at a later date.}

Rite of the Black Mask* / 1
alignment : black
range : none
area : self
duration : special
material : the mistics talim
calling : 100 words
evocation :

description :
Drawn from a fragment of an ancient book called The Rites of Death, this ritual grants the mistic the ability to Feign Death. As per the skill or Spirit spell Mask of Death, the power of this ritual creates a realistic illusion of death appropriate the situation. The mistic appears to have suffered a grave wound, is cold to the touch, or smells of death. Once the ritual has been evoked, the mistic may call upon the feign death at any time.

While feigning death, the mistic cannot move, speak, or make any action. Physical inspection of the mistic will reveal a lifeless body. The player may remain dead for as long as he or she desires. Once the mistic makes an action, the illusion is broken. This ritual does not make the character immune to damage or pain. Thus, if hit, the character breaks out of feign death and suffers the hit normally.

Unlike the skill or the spell, the rituals illusion cannot be revealed by Awaken, Detect Undead, and Speak With Dead. The skill Aid at fourth level will not reveal the rituals illusion. A Detect Magic or Sense Misticism will not see through the Rite of the Black Mask. Once the power of the ritual is used, it must be re-evoked.
